Stéphanie Bélanger, CD, PhD
Associate Scientific Director, Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research
Dr. Bélanger, CD, is the Associate Scientific Director of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research, a unique consortium of 46 Canadian universities dedicated to researching the health needs of military personnel, Veterans and their families. She is co-editor in chief of the Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health (University of Toronto Press founded in 2015). She is also co-founder of The New Directions in Foreign Policy, Military, and Security Studies series with McGill Queen’s University Press (MQUP, founded in 2016), and of the Raconter la guerre au XXIe siècle series with Presses de l’Université Laval (PUL, founded in 2024). She co-chairs the CIMVHR annual Forums, and she partners with many other research groups, including the Mémorial Vivant Virtuel de Survivant.es de Viol(ences) with l’Université de Rennes II, to co-host conferences, workshops, and working groups.
She was inducted as a member of the College of young scholars of the Royal society of Canada in 2016. She is the Chair of the Department of French Language, Literature and Culture at the Royal Military College of Canada where her research focuses on War Testimony, Soldier Identity, and Moral Injuries. She specializes in Military Ethics and Just War Theories. She completed her PhD degree at the University of Toronto in 2003 and her MPA degree at RMC in 2013, and completed a certificate in Addictions at the Faculty of Medecine of Université Laval (2024).
She served as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces for 20 years (2004-2024).
